What Size Storage Unit Do I Need

When you are running out of room in your home or world you have probably asked yourself, "What Size Storage Unit do I need?
The answer comes with what you want to store there, how large of a space your items take up, and how much or how often it will be that you will need access to them.
Choosing the right storage unit will save not only money but time and trouble trying to cram it all in a storage unit too small to hold or fit it.
Know what Space will Be Required for Your Items
Before you come to a decision about the storage unit stop a moment and think about the items in it.
Are you going to store a few boxes of your personal items? Furniture from an entire house? Inventory of a business?
Knowing what you will want to put into it in advance may be very helpful in this shopping, or estimating of storage space and unit sizes to hold what you want to put in.
If you are a student you will more than likely need to rent a small locker sized storage unit or one ranging from 10 - 25 sq. ft. One of these will do for a place for basic utilities.
If you are remodelling a studio, or moving a one bedroom house, you will want to look for something around the capacity of a storage unit in the room of 50 sq ft.
If you need one for a three bedroom house, or storage of office equipment then you may need a storage unit of from 100 sq ft. to 150 sq ft.
But larger businesses or families who will be storing alot of household furniture, appliances or bulky items require more usually than 200 sq ft.
This gives sufficient room for wardrobes and desks and boxes, and at the same time allows people to move around in the unit.
How to see how much you need
The best method is to make a quick inventory of the things that you will store. Write down the number of items, and the approximate bulk and don't forget about things like furniture and kitchen appliances and smaller items.
It is invariably better to overestimate your storage space a little, then you have room to make things convenient and get at the things when you want them.
Your uses of the unit will also determine somewhat your choice.
If you only want self storage during a short time, you can stack things together and make the most of every inch of space.
If you want to get at the things regularly, leave a small passage for convenience in reaching your things. This little piece of advice will help you enormously to make your experience a very much more pleasant one, and save you the constant trouble of unpacking things and repacking your self storage unit.
Making use of the different sizes of storage
A small self storage unit is about the size of a large garden shed, and will hold some boxes of things, some valises and smaller things from the house.
A medium self storage unit will hold the contents of a one or two bedroom flat, for example, a bed, a sofa, some kitchen things, etc.
With larger homes, you will require units of the size of a garage or larger. This sort of size may hold the things from a full house, and is ideal for both businesses and those who want to store the contents of a larger home.
If you live in a town, such as London or Manchester, do not forget that the prices of storages will differ according to the place.
The correct self storage unit is a matter of balancing the space and prices so you are not paying for storage expansion that is not being utilized.
Getting the most from your storage
When you have chosen your self storage unit, it is worthwhile to pack intelligently. Put the heavier things such as tables and things higher up to the back of the unit, with the things of less strength outside.
Pack all close, so as to make the most of the storage space and to protect the more fragile goods to some degree.
Use strong boxes and label them so it will help you enormously when coming to unpack things again later. If you are planning to store your furniture for the long term, it might be a good idea to use covers for your furniture that are porous to the air, so that they may be free from dust and thus present well in every respect.
