It’s a simplified storage model – all units are the same sized, large container storage units with easy drive-up access. Security is constant and tightly controlled. Big Yellow is well known nationally, and the security of a larger, well-known company (as with Pink) offers a degree of security to storers. Indoor storage of varied sizes means that storers have space size options, and free trolleys are available for navigating corridors/lifts. This is offset a little by the clarity of their offering and pricing promises, but still leaves them at number 2.

Shurgard made the list primarily on the basis of the Google rankings for Cardiff. 4.6 (and upwards) on TrustPilot is good, but, although unverified and small numbers, a 5 on Google can't be ignored. Shurgard might have been a little higher in our top five were their website a little clearer (mixed messages regarding half price offers in some places, one pound offer and minimum periods and opening hours). Their opening hours and availability of drive up access counted in their favour.

1.       How much is self-storage per month, and clarity on any offers: Confused pricing, but £1 for first month’s storage is a great offer.  Tie people in for a minimum period, but this may be short. Several small additional costs (admin fee, padlock) but these seem minimal. Changes expected.

2.       Location and opening hours: Extended hours on a Thursday and relatively available at weekends. Have some drive up access.

4.       Company strength: well established company, although acquisition by Shurgard is bound to mean some changes.
